The Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board has issued notices to four housing societies in Sector 150 Noida after sewage treatment plants failed inspections, raising concerns over water quality and environmental compliance.

  • Four societies in sector 150 Noida served notices by UPPCB.
  • STP water samples failed quality testing during inspections.
  • Builders may face penalties if violations continue.

Noida: Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board (UPPCB) has issued notices to builders of four residential societies in Sector 150, Noida, after inspections revealed that their Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) were either non-functional or failing to meet prescribed standards.

The action comes amid growing complaints from residents regarding poor water quality and concerns over untreated wastewater entering society premises.

According to officials, the affected societies include Mahagun Meadow, Antriksh Grand View, ACE Medley Avenue, and Ace Golfshire. Inspection teams visited the projects after receiving repeated complaints from residents. Water samples collected from the STPs reportedly failed quality tests, indicating that the treatment systems were not operating effectively.

Functional STPs are mandatory in large residential communities to ensure proper treatment and reuse of wastewater while preventing environmental pollution.

The notices were issued by the UPPCB headquarters in Lucknow, seeking explanations from the respective builders regarding the poor performance of their sewage treatment facilities. Officials stated that despite more than a month passing since the notices were sent, no satisfactory response has been received from the developers.

The board has sought clarification on why the treatment plants were not functioning as required under environmental regulations.

The issue is significant for thousands of residents living in these societies, as non-functional STPs can impact water quality, hygiene, and environmental safety. Experts note that untreated or poorly treated wastewater may pose health risks and place additional pressure on local water resources.

The latest action also highlights increasing scrutiny of builders’ compliance with environmental norms in rapidly developing residential sectors of Noida.

Going forward, UPPCB officials have indicated that fresh inspections will be conducted at the concerned societies. New water samples will be collected and tested to verify whether corrective measures have been implemented. If the STPs continue to fail quality standards, the builders could face financial penalties and further regulatory action.

The pollution control board has also intensified inspections of residential societies across the district following a rise in complaints related to water treatment and environmental management.
