John Abraham Buys 1926-built Bandra Bungalow for Rs 84 Crore

Mumbai: Bollywood actor John Abraham has added another premium property to his real estate portfolio by purchasing a century-old bungalow in Bandra West for Rs 84 crore. The transaction involves a heritage home built in 1926, making it one of the notable high-value residential deals in Mumbai’s luxury property market.
The bungalow, located at 20, St Martin Road, sits on a peaceful lane connecting Turner Road and Hill Road in Bandra West. Owned by the DeVitre family, the property features four bedrooms, a spacious hall, a garden with fruit-bearing trees, and an outhouse.
Unlike many similar properties in Mumbai that are redeveloped into high-rise buildings, sources familiar with the transaction said John Abraham purchased the bungalow because he admired its heritage appeal and has no plans to redevelop it.
Speaking about the sale, Fredun DeVitre, one of the property’s co-owners, said the family’s children have settled abroad, prompting the decision to sell the home. He added that the family intentionally chose not to sell the property to a developer, as they wanted to avoid the demolition of the nearly 100-year-old bungalow for a residential tower.
The purchase further highlights John Abraham’s long-standing interest in Mumbai’s real estate market. In December 2023, the actor acquired another bungalow on Linking Road, Khar, for Rs 75 crore. Over the years, he has invested in several premium properties, including a prime plot in Union Park, Bandra West, purchased in 2009.
Real estate experts note that many Bollywood celebrities continue to invest in luxury homes, commercial spaces, villas, and heritage properties as part of their long-term wealth creation strategy.
With premium neighbourhoods such as Bandra, Khar, and Andheri remaining among Mumbai’s most sought-after real estate destinations, heritage bungalows are becoming increasingly rare. Industry observers believe such transactions could encourage greater interest in preserving iconic residential properties while reinforcing the area’s reputation as a preferred address for celebrities and high-net-worth individuals.
