MS Dhoni Gets Notice Over Ranchi Plot Misuse Allegations

The Jharkhand State Housing Board has issued a notice to former India captain MS Dhoni over alleged commercial use of a residential plot in Ranchi, with cancellation possible if violations are confirmed.

  • Plot in Ranchi was allotted strictly for residential use

  • Board alleges possible commercial activity at the property

  • Allotment may be cancelled if response is unsatisfactory

Ranchi: The Jharkhand State Housing Board has issued a formal notice to former India cricket captain MS Dhoni over the alleged misuse of a residential plot in Ranchi. Officials said the land, originally allotted for residential purposes, is suspected to have been used for commercial activities.

According to the Housing Board, the allotment terms clearly restrict the plot’s usage to residential purposes only. However, complaints and subsequent inquiries reportedly indicated that the property may have been used for non-residential activities, prompting authorities to seek an explanation from Dhoni.

Housing Board Chairman Sanjay Lal Paswan confirmed that notices were issued not only to Dhoni but also to several other individuals and officials where similar violations were suspected. He stated that the board had allotted multiple plots for housing purposes, and action was initiated after reports of commercial usage surfaced.

The matter came to light during a formal inquiry conducted by the board. Based on preliminary findings, a final notice was sent asking Dhoni to clarify the nature of activities being carried out at the property. If the response is not found satisfactory or if violations are confirmed, the board may proceed with cancellation of the allotment in line with established regulations.

The property under scrutiny is located on Harmu Road in Ranchi, where Dhoni had previously resided before moving to his newly constructed home on Ring Road. The controversy reportedly began after allegations emerged that a diagnostic centre was being operated from the Harmu Road premises.

Interestingly, similar concerns have been raised regarding other properties in the same locality, including a state office linked to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Authorities confirmed that notices were issued in those cases as well, and investigations are ongoing.

Officials emphasized that the inquiry process is still underway and any final decision will depend on the findings. They reiterated that action would be taken strictly according to the rules governing residential land use.

Dhoni could not be reached for comment at the time of reporting. Meanwhile, on the cricketing front, he is expected to return to action for the Chennai Super Kings in the upcoming IPL 2026 season.
