  • Congress has raised questions over the transactions and sought transparency.

Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh: A political debate has erupted after a report claimed that family members of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav acquired 168 acres of land in Ujjain for around Rs 45 crore. The purchases were reportedly made over the last two years in areas expected to benefit from the city’s ongoing infrastructure and urban development projects.

The issue has attracted attention because Ujjain is currently witnessing significant investment in roads, highways, and commercial expansion, making it one of the state’s fastest-growing property markets.

According to the report, at least 137 plots covering approximately 168 acres were purchased by members of the Chief Minister’s family and family-run real estate firms after Mohan Yadav assumed office in December 2023. The acquisitions were reportedly concentrated in zones likely to gain from future infrastructure upgrades and land-use changes. The report also stated that some of the acquired plots were later sold.

Land records cited in the report indicate that the purchases were made either directly or through real estate companies linked to family members, including Mohan Yadav’s wife Seema Yadav, daughter-in-law Shalini Yadav, brothers Nandlal and Narayan Yadav, Narayan’s wife Rekha Yadav, their son Abhay Yadav, and cousins Govind and Nilesh Yadav.

The Congress strongly criticized the reported transactions and accused the BJP government of allowing private interests to benefit from public development projects. Party leaders described the matter as an example of the “engine of plunder” operating under the BJP’s “double-engine government” and demanded greater transparency regarding the land deals.

The controversy is likely to intensify political discussions in Madhya Pradesh, particularly as Ujjain continues to undergo large-scale urban transformation. Opposition parties may seek further details about the acquisitions, while public attention remains focused on whether any conflict-of-interest concerns arise from investments made in rapidly developing areas.

With Ujjain emerging as a major destination for real estate investment due to new infrastructure projects and planned urban expansion, the issue is expected to remain under scrutiny in the coming weeks. Further responses from the state government, the Chief Minister’s office, or regulatory authorities may provide additional clarity on the matter.
