Noida Authority Moves to Complete Parallel Road Along Noida–Greater Noida Expressway
To ease traffic congestion and improve local mobility, the Noida Authority plans to complete missing stretches of the Noida Expressway parallel road, a long-pending infrastructure project affecting multiple residential sectors.

Noida: In a renewed push to tackle traffic congestion and strengthen internal connectivity, the Noida Authority has decided to complete the unfinished sections of the Noida Expressway parallel road, a 45-metre-wide arterial corridor running alongside the Noida–Greater Noida Expressway.
The road was originally planned as a dedicated sector route to handle neighbourhood traffic, allowing commuters to avoid the expressway for short-distance travel. However, despite much of the corridor being built, three small but critical gaps have rendered the road partially unusable for years.
What’s Holding the Road Back
The unfinished portions lie between Sectors 163 and 167, where three missing links—measuring 74 metres, 75 metres, and 81 metres—have disrupted the continuity of the otherwise fully developed corridor. The completed stretches feature a six-lane central carriageway with service roads on both sides, designed to efficiently manage local traffic flow.
Due to these breaks, residents of several sectors—including 150, 151, 152, 153, 155, 163, 167, 135, and 168—are forced to rely on the Noida–Greater Noida Expressway even for short daily commutes within the city. This has not only increased travel time for residents but also added unnecessary pressure on the already busy expressway.
Authority Acknowledges Planning Gap
Officials from the Noida Authority have admitted that the sector road was meant to function as a pressure-relief corridor for the expressway. With its incomplete stretches, that objective has remained unfulfilled.
Noida Authority Chief Executive Officer Lokesh M has now directed both the civil and land departments to expedite the resolution of land-related issues that have stalled progress on the missing sections.
Land Issues at the Core
According to Vijay Rawal, Deputy General Manager of the Authority, the delay stems largely from compensation disputes with farmers who own land along the unfinished portions of the road. The affected landowners have been seeking land-for-land compensation within Noida city limits in exchange for their agricultural holdings.
Officials said fresh discussions will be initiated with the farmers to reach a mutually acceptable solution and unlock the stalled construction. The Authority hopes that resolving these negotiations will allow work to resume without further delays.
Rising Traffic Adds Urgency
The decision to fast-track the Noida Expressway parallel road comes at a time when traffic volumes at Noida’s entry and exit points are rising steadily. The situation is expected to intensify further with the operationalisation of the Noida International Airport at Jewar, which is likely to bring a significant increase in vehicular movement across the region.
Adding to the urgency is the uncertainty surrounding the proposed elevated road along the Yamuna embankment, which continues to face approval-related delays. With that project still stuck on paper, the parallel road is now seen as a more immediate and practical solution to manage traffic demand.
Why the Road Matters
Urban planners and resident groups have long argued that completing the parallel road is critical for improving last-mile connectivity, reducing congestion on the expressway, and enhancing overall commuting efficiency in Noida’s rapidly developing sectors.
Once completed, the road is expected to:
-
Reduce dependency on the expressway for local travel
-
Improve connectivity between residential sectors
-
Shorten travel time during peak hours
-
Support future traffic linked to the airport and nearby commercial hubs
Residents have welcomed the Authority’s renewed focus on the project but stress that timely execution will be key. “The gaps are small, but their impact is massive,” said a resident of Sector 150, adding that even short trips currently require merging onto high-speed expressway traffic.
With official directions now in place and negotiations expected to resume, the long-delayed Noida Expressway parallel road may finally move closer to completion, offering relief to thousands of daily commuters.
