Noida Authority Approves ₹80-Crore Six-Lane Underpass at Parthala Chowk

Noida: The Noida Authority has decided to construct a six-lane underpass at Parthala Chowk along the Faridabad-Noida-Ghaziabad (FNG) Corridor. The ₹80-crore project is aimed at reducing the severe traffic congestion witnessed at the busy junction, particularly during morning and evening peak hours. According to officials, construction is expected to be completed within 18 months.

Parthala Chowk is a major traffic junction where vehicles coming from Vikas Marg, which connects Sectors 52 and 71 towards Gaur Chowk, meet the FNG road. The FNG route provides connectivity towards Sorka, Chhijarsi, Ghaziabad, National Highway-9 and the Delhi-Meerut Expressway.

The proposed underpass will be around 710 metres long, with three lanes in each direction, allowing through traffic on the FNG corridor to bypass the busy intersection.

The proposed structure will include a 110-metre-long RCC box in each direction, along with a 20-metre open section. It will also have approach roads measuring around 280 metres on either side. Two sump-and-pumping arrangements are planned as part of the project to manage water drainage.

The Authority said the underpass will be constructed using diaphragm-wall technology along with RCC construction. The method is intended to provide stability to the surrounding soil and protect existing infrastructure while excavation and construction work is carried out.

AK Arora, General Manager at the Noida Authority, said the underpass is expected to provide uninterrupted movement along the FNG Corridor and reduce traffic stoppages at Parthala Chowk once it becomes operational.

Officials said the project is expected to increase traffic-handling capacity, shorten travel time, improve road safety and reduce congestion around the junction.

The underpass is expected to improve connectivity for residents travelling between several nearby sectors, including Sectors 66, 71, 119, 120, 121 and 122, along with Chhijarsi and surrounding areas.

Traffic on the FNG stretch becomes particularly difficult to manage during peak hours, with vehicles often moving slowly near Parthala Chowk. Local residents have therefore welcomed the proposed infrastructure project but have also urged the authorities to complete the work within the promised timeline.

The Noida Authority had inaugurated the 600-metre Parthala flyover in 2023 to improve movement between Noida and Greater Noida West. The flyover helped ease congestion on Vikas Marg, but traffic bottlenecks continued around the roundabout and the FNG road.

The new underpass is planned to address this remaining congestion by separating FNG traffic from vehicles using the junction.

The project is estimated to cost ₹80 crore, with an expected construction period of 18 months. Once work begins, construction agencies will have to manage traffic and existing infrastructure around the busy junction while building the underpass.

If completed as planned, the project could provide a smoother FNG route and make daily commuting easier for residents of several adjoining sectors.
