Noida Expressway to Get 1,200 Solar Streetlights
The Noida Authority has approved 1,200 solar-powered streetlights for the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway, along with battery storage to ensure uninterrupted lighting during power outages.

Noida: The Noida-Greater Noida Expressway is set for a major lighting upgrade, with the Noida Authority approving the installation of 1,200 solar-powered streetlights along the 24.53-km corridor. The project is aimed at addressing dark patches created by power interruptions and improving visibility for thousands of motorists travelling between Noida and Greater Noida.
The project is particularly important because the six-lane expressway carries more than 80,000 vehicles daily and connects key routes, including the DND Flyway, Yamuna Expressway and the national capital. Along with the new lights, the project will include a 2.4 MW Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), allowing the lighting network to continue operating even when grid power is unavailable.
The Noida Authority has appointed Tata Projects to undertake the installation and related works. According to officials, the upgraded system will increase illumination levels, or lux levels, across the expressway and provide more uniform lighting, particularly during nighttime travel and periods of poor visibility in winter.

Reliable lighting is important on a high-traffic corridor such as the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway. Power failures can leave sections of the road poorly illuminated, potentially affecting visibility, navigation and road safety. The battery storage system is intended to reduce this problem by supplying electricity to the lights without waiting for the regular grid connection to be restored.
The initiative is also part of Noida’s broader smart street-lighting programme. Tata Projects has already installed more than 76,000 LED streetlights across Noida under the wider initiative. The upgraded infrastructure is expected to make streetlight management more efficient while helping authorities respond to faults more quickly.
Noida residents can report malfunctioning streetlights through the Noida Smart LED Light app. Complaints are electronically recorded and tracked until they are resolved. A dedicated toll-free helpline, 1800-102-9574, is also available for reporting lighting-related problems.
The installation of the 1,200 solar streetlights is expected to be carried out in phases, with priority likely given to the busiest sections of the expressway. Once operational, the combination of solar lighting and battery backup is expected to improve nighttime visibility, reduce disruptions caused by power cuts and strengthen lighting infrastructure along one of Noida’s key transport corridors.
