  • Residents demand permanent repair and stricter safety checks

Noida: Residents of Tata Eureka Park Society in Sector 150, Noida, faced major inconvenience on Monday night after a lift in Tower 3 stopped functioning for nearly three hours. The breakdown created panic and frustration among residents living in the 28-storey tower, especially senior citizens, women, and children who were forced to use the stairs late at night.

According to residents, complaints regarding irregular lift operations had been raised since the morning. However, the situation worsened during the night when one of the elevators completely stopped working. As a result, several families remained stranded, while many residents struggled to climb multiple floors due to the unavailability of the lift.

Residents said the incident caused severe discomfort, particularly for elderly people and those with health issues. Some reported fatigue and breathing difficulties after climbing several floors. Families returning home late at night also faced inconvenience, with children and women finding it difficult to access their apartments in the high-rise tower.

The society’s maintenance team reportedly worked for hours to restore the lift services. Technicians continued repair work late into the night before the elevator was finally brought back into operation. Despite the temporary resolution, residents expressed anger over what they described as a recurring issue within the society.

People living in Tower 3 alleged that lift-related problems have become frequent and that previous complaints have not led to any permanent solution. Residents accused both the maintenance agency and the builder’s management of failing to properly address safety and operational concerns related to the elevators.

Several residents said that lift failures in high-rise societies are not just an inconvenience but also a serious safety concern. In residential towers with more than 25 floors, elevators are essential for daily movement, emergency access, and medical situations. A prolonged breakdown can create difficulties for elderly residents, patients, and even emergency services if immediate access is needed.

Following the incident, residents demanded a complete technical inspection of all lifts in the society. They have also called for regular maintenance checks, safety certifications, and quicker emergency response systems to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Residents also claimed that they attempted to contact Amit Kumar, a representative associated with the maintenance company responsible for society operations, through calls and messages to seek clarification regarding the issue. However, according to residents, no official response was received till the time of reporting.
