Goa Rooftop Solar Subsidy Scheme Offers Up to 50% Subsidy
Goa has introduced a new rooftop solar subsidy scheme covering homes, housing societies, institutions, businesses and NGOs, with financial support of up to 50% for eligible installations.
- Residential consumers can receive up to 50% subsidy for rooftop solar systems up to 10 kWp.
- GHSs, RWAs and educational institutions can get support for systems up to 90 kWp.
- Installations must use eligible domestic solar panels and approved vendors under PM Surya Ghar and GEDA.
Goa: The Goa government has notified a new Grid-Connected Rooftop Solar Promotion Scheme aimed at encouraging wider adoption of rooftop solar power across the state. The scheme offers financial assistance of up to 50% for eligible grid-connected solar rooftop installations and covers residential consumers as well as several institutional and commercial categories.
The scheme was notified on Friday and is available to consumers with a permanent Consumer Account (CA) number issued by the Electricity Department. Under the programme, residential consumers can install rooftop solar systems ranging from 1 kWp to 10 kWp, while Group Housing Societies (GHSs) and Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) can receive support for systems of up to 90 kWp.
Educational institutions and other eligible consumer categories can also benefit within the prescribed capacity limits. The move is significant as it could reduce electricity costs while encouraging cleaner energy generation across Goa.
According to the state government’s scheme guidelines, residential consumers will receive a subsidy of up to 50%, limited to a maximum eligible capacity of 10 kWp. The subsidy will be calculated using the benchmark costs specified by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.
GHSs and RWAs can also receive 50% financial assistance for systems up to 90 kWp, while educational institutions are eligible for similar support up to the prescribed 90 kWp limit.
The scheme could particularly benefit households and housing communities looking to reduce their dependence on conventional grid electricity. For GHSs and RWAs, however, the eligible solar connection must be used exclusively for common facilities and cannot be used to supply electricity directly to individual residential consumers within the society.
The availability of both central and state financial assistance is also linked to the use of domestically manufactured solar panels made with domestically manufactured solar cells, as required under the applicable guidelines.
Beneficiaries will need to get their rooftop solar systems installed through vendors that are empanelled under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana and also duly empanelled with the Goa Energy Development Agency (GEDA).
The installed systems must comply with the technical specifications, quality standards, certifications and testing requirements prescribed for grid-connected rooftop solar photovoltaic systems under the PM Surya Ghar programme.
The scheme is expected to make rooftop solar more accessible to different consumer groups in Goa while supporting the state’s broader transition towards renewable energy. Eligible consumers will need to follow the prescribed application, installation and verification process to claim the applicable subsidy.
