New Delhi: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is planning to develop residential buildings above metro stations and maintenance depots as part of its property development strategy. The proposal aims to make better use of limited urban land while promoting transit-oriented development. If implemented, the initiative could significantly change how people live and travel in the national capital.
The proposed development will utilise the airspace above selected metro stations and depots to construct multi-storey residential buildings. The project is designed to reduce daily commuting time, encourage the use of public transport, and generate additional non-fare revenue for DMRC.
