Noida: Noida International Airport is set to commence commercial passenger operations from June 15. The long-awaited launch marks a significant milestone for the Delhi-NCR region, which has been witnessing rapid urban and economic expansion.
The airport operator confirmed that IndiGo will operate the inaugural flight, officially kickstarting scheduled passenger services. Shortly after, other carriers including Akasa Air and Air India Express are expected to begin their operations from the new aviation hub. While the exact destinations for initial flights have not yet been disclosed, officials have indicated that announcements regarding routes and schedules will be made soon.
The operational readiness of the airport comes after a series of key approvals and developments. The project was inaugurated earlier this year by Narendra Modi on March 28, signaling the government’s focus on strengthening aviation infrastructure. More recently, the airport received approval for its Aerodrome Security Programme from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security, clearing a critical hurdle before commercial launch.
According to NIA Chief Executive Officer RK Singh, the airport is fully prepared to begin operations. He stated that all essential arrangements have been completed, and the remaining formalities are being finalised. Ticket bookings are also expected to open soon, although officials have not specified an exact timeline.
Designed as one of India’s most advanced greenfield airports, Noida International Airport aims to cater to the rising demand for air travel in North India. The facility features modern terminal infrastructure, efficient passenger handling systems, and strong multimodal connectivity, making it easily accessible from Noida, Greater Noida, Delhi, and surrounding regions.
Industry insiders suggest that IndiGo is likely to dominate operations in the initial phase, potentially running the highest number of flights. There are also indications that the airline may develop a parallel network of both domestic and international routes from the airport, strengthening its footprint in northern India.
Meanwhile, Akasa Air has already announced plans to base aircraft at the airport, enabling it to operate both domestic and international services. Similarly, Air India Express is expected to introduce regular flights, with early plans hinting at connections such as daily services to Bengaluru. However, final schedules are yet to be confirmed.
Airport authorities are also expected to hold meetings with all participating airlines to finalise flight slots, operational logistics, and route planning. These discussions will play a key role in shaping the airport’s initial phase of operations and ensuring a smooth passenger experience.
Beyond aviation, the launch of Noida International Airport is expected to trigger large-scale economic transformation across Uttar Pradesh and the Delhi-NCR region. Officials highlight that the airport will significantly improve regional connectivity, reduce congestion at Delhi’s existing airports, and open up new opportunities in tourism, trade, and logistics.
Shailendra Kumar Bhatia, nodal officer for the airport project, emphasized that the development will create thousands of jobs while attracting domestic and international investments. The airport is also expected to act as a catalyst for real estate growth, particularly in areas like Jewar, Greater Noida, and Yamuna Expressway.
