Noida International Airport at Jewar Set for March 28 Inauguration by PM Modi

India’s largest upcoming airport in Jewar is set to open on March 28, promising better NCR connectivity, reduced Delhi airport load, and major growth in logistics, jobs, and real estate.

  • PM Modi likely to inaugurate Jewar Airport on March 28, 2026
  • Phase 1 to handle 1.2 crore passengers annually with 150 daily flights
  • Project expected to boost NCR connectivity, jobs, and real estate demand

Noida/Greater Noida: The much-anticipated Noida International Airport at Jewar is expected to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on March 28, marking a major milestone in India’s aviation and infrastructure development.

The announcement follows earlier indications from Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who confirmed that the Prime Minister had been invited to officially launch the greenfield airport project. Once operational, the airport is set to significantly reduce congestion at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport while improving regional and international connectivity across the NCR.

Operations to Begin Soon After Launch
Officials indicate that domestic passenger flights and cargo operations are likely to commence shortly after the inauguration. In its first phase, the airport will operate with a single runway and is expected to handle around 1.2 crore passengers annually, with nearly 150 flights per day.

The airport features a 3.9-kilometre-long runway, designed to support large-scale operations. It will also include 10 aerobridges, along with three additional temporary aerobridges to enhance passenger movement and flexibility. Advanced ATRS baggage screening systems have been installed to ensure faster and more efficient security checks.

Modern Infrastructure and Smart Features
Built with a focus on sustainability and efficiency, the airport includes solar power integration and infrastructure designed to prevent waterlogging. Safety systems such as a 180-degree monitoring ARFF (Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting) tower have also been deployed.

Massive Scale and Future Expansion Plans
The first phase of the project spans 1,327 hectares, while the overall development is planned across nearly 5,000 hectares, placing it among the largest airport projects globally.

A key component is the Multi-Modal Cargo Hub, spread over 87 acres, with the capacity to handle approximately 2.5 lakh tonnes of cargo annually. This is expected to transform the region into a logistics powerhouse.

So far, around 6,700 acres of land have been acquired, with additional acquisition planned. The government has invested nearly Rs 5,000 crore in land acquisition, while construction costs are estimated at around Rs 7,000 crore.

Long-Term Vision: Among World’s Largest Airports
In the long run, the airport is planned to expand to nearly 11,750 acres with up to five runways and the capacity to handle up to 300 million passengers annually, making it one of the largest airports in the world.

Future phases will be developed based on passenger demand. Once annual traffic crosses one crore passengers, work on the second runway will begin, increasing capacity significantly.

Boost to Connectivity and Real Estate
The airport is also expected to enhance connectivity through upcoming infrastructure projects such as the Ghaziabad–Jewar Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS), expected to be partially operational by 2027.

Experts believe the launch will drive strong growth in real estate, employment, and logistics sectors across Noida, Greater Noida, and surrounding regions, making Jewar a key economic hub in the coming years.
