Noida: Residents of Prateek Laurel society in Sector 120, Noida, have raised objections to a reported sewage treatment plant (STP) project in the green belt near their residential complex. The residents’ opposition centres on the proposed location of the facility and concerns about its potential impact on the surrounding residential environment.

The issue has drawn attention to the use of green belt land for infrastructure development and the need for transparency regarding the project’s location, approvals and technical details.

According to the residents’ appeal, the proposed facility could involve excavation to a depth of approximately 10 metres and collect sewage from Sarfabad and surrounding areas. The message also raises the possibility of two or three additional plants being developed in the future.

Residents have expressed concerns about potential odour, groundwater protection, mosquito breeding and the management of sewage generated in nearby areas. They have also sought clarification on reports of deep excavation and the possibility of additional sewage treatment facilities in the area.

These technical details and potential impacts require confirmation through official project documents and assessments. The presence of an STP does not automatically establish an environmental or public health hazard; its impact depends on its design, location, operation and compliance with applicable standards.

The residents’ protest has brought the issue into focus, with the key questions concerning the proposed land use, required approvals and safeguards for the neighbouring residential community.
