Noida Sector 41 Residents Report 12-15 Hour Power Outage in F Block,

Residents of F Block in Noida's Sector 41 reported an extended power outage on Friday, raising concerns over ageing transformers, recurring electricity disruptions and infrastructure reliability.

  • F Block residents reported a power outage lasting around 12 hours, with some households affected for nearly 15 hours.
  • UPPCL attributed the disruption to water entering and damaging an ageing transformer.
  • Officials said plans to upgrade electricity infrastructure in older neighbourhoods are expected to begin after Diwali.

Noida: Residents of F Block in Noida’s Sector 41 reported a prolonged electricity outage between Thursday midnight and Friday afternoon, with power supply taking approximately 12 hours to return in the affected area. The disruption caused inconvenience to households and renewed concerns about the reliability of the electricity infrastructure in the residential locality, which has an estimated population of around 800 people.

According to residents, electricity supply remained unavailable for most of the night and continued into Friday afternoon. Although electricity department officials arrived in the morning to address the transformer problem, the situation was reportedly not resolved immediately. Residents said additional transformers had to be arranged before normal supply could be restored. Many households depend on inverters during power cuts, but these provide limited support when outages continue for several hours.

Vijay Singh, a resident of F Block, said electricity department officials reached the location between 8:30 am and 9 am to repair the transformer. However, the power supply remained disrupted for several more hours.

He said electricity was restored around noon or 1 pm after officials arranged additional transformers. The prolonged outage left residents struggling to manage their routine activities without electricity.

Another resident, Saibal Basu, reported a separate problem caused by a power surge. He said the surge affected electrical supply at his house and a neighbouring property, resulting in an additional delay in restoring electricity.

According to Basu, his household remained without power until approximately 4 pm. He had to identify and fix the issue himself, which took around two hours. As a result, he experienced an outage lasting nearly 15 hours.

Responding to the complaints, Mohit Dixit, Executive Engineer at the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL), said water had entered the transformer through a leakage, causing damage and interrupting electricity supply.

He stated that the power outage began around 3 am on Friday and electricity was restored around noon after the damaged equipment was repaired. The official also pointed towards the age of the existing electricity infrastructure as a contributing concern.

According to Dixit, the infrastructure in the locality is at least 20 years old, while some installed transformers are approximately 22 years old. He added that the department is planning to upgrade electricity infrastructure in older residential neighbourhoods.

The incident has highlighted the challenges faced by residents in older residential areas of Noida, where ageing electrical equipment can increase the risk of breakdowns and prolonged supply disruptions.

Extended outages affect more than basic household activities. They can interrupt work-from-home arrangements, water pumping, food storage, cooling systems and other essential services. Power surges can also damage electrical appliances and create additional repair expenses for residents.

The incident has also raised questions about preventive maintenance and the need to identify vulnerable transformers before they fail, rather than relying primarily on repairs after disruptions occur.

UPPCL officials have indicated that work to revamp electricity infrastructure in older neighbourhoods is expected to begin after Diwali. The proposed improvements are aimed at addressing ageing equipment and strengthening the reliability of power distribution.

Residents will now look for timely implementation of these upgrades, particularly the replacement or modernisation of older transformers and improvements in maintenance systems.

However, the department has not provided a specific completion timeline for the proposed work in F Block. Until the upgrades are implemented, residents remain concerned about the possibility of similar power disruptions in the locality.
