Delhi CM Lays Foundation for 53 Projects in Unauthorised Colonies
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has launched 53 infrastructure projects worth ₹214.12 crore across five constituencies, targeting roads and drainage improvements in 27 unauthorised colonies.

Delhi: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta laid the foundation stones for 53 development projects worth ₹214.12 crore on Sunday across unauthorised colonies in Delhi. The projects are being taken up in Kirari, Bawana, Mundka, Narela and Nangloi Jat, with the government estimating that around 1.75 lakh residents will benefit from the works.
The projects are focused mainly on improving roads, drainage and sewerage infrastructure in residential areas that have faced recurring issues such as waterlogging, damaged roads and poor local connectivity. Overall, the works will cover 1,062 roads and lanes across 27 unauthorised colonies, including the construction or improvement of around 89.82 km of roads and 147.69 km of drainage networks.
According to Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the government wants basic infrastructure such as roads and drainage to reach residential lanes as well as major roads. She said the objective is to ensure development reaches every part of Delhi and that long-pending infrastructure issues are addressed through planned implementation.
Kirari will receive the largest portion of the development package, with 27 projects worth ₹105.51 crore planned across 14 unauthorised colonies. The works will cover 640 roads and lanes, involving approximately 50.71 km of road development and 101.42 km of drainage infrastructure.
Other areas will also receive multiple projects. Bawana has been allocated nine projects worth ₹38.83 crore, while Mundka will see five projects costing ₹22.05 crore. Narela will receive four projects worth ₹14.48 crore, and Nangloi Jat will have eight projects with a total estimated cost of ₹33.25 crore.
The road and drainage upgrades are expected to address some of the infrastructure problems reported in these colonies, particularly waterlogging during heavy rainfall and deteriorated road surfaces. Improved roads could also make movement within residential areas easier while reducing dust generated from damaged or unpaved stretches.
The development programme has been launched under the Delhi government’s Seva Sankalp campaign, with officials stressing the need to extend infrastructure improvements beyond major roads and into residential neighbourhoods.
PWD and Water Minister Parvesh Verma said the projects are intended to bring planned development to internal residential lanes in unauthorised colonies. The foundation stone ceremony was attended by several public representatives, including North West Delhi MP Yogendra Chandolia, ministers Ashish Sood and Ravindra Indraj Singh, and MLAs Raj Karan, Manoj Shokeen and Gajendra Daral.
The identified projects will now move towards implementation, with road and drainage works to be carried out across the selected colonies. The Delhi government has indicated that the focus will remain on completing long-pending infrastructure works through planned and time-bound execution.
