Greater Noida West to Get First Double-Decker Flyover

GNIDA has approved a double-decker flyover connecting Greater Noida West and Crossings Republik, aiming to reduce traffic congestion, improve daily commuting, and strengthen connectivity with the Delhi-Meerut Expressway.

  • Greater Noida’s first double-decker flyover to be completed by 2028.
  • Rs 900 crore project will connect Greater Noida West with Crossings Republik.
  • New design aims to ease heavy traffic and improve daily commuting.

Greater Noida: Commuters travelling between Greater Noida West, Shahberi, and Crossings Republik are set to benefit from a major infrastructure upgrade as the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) has approved plans to build the city’s first double-decker flyover.

The 2.5-km project, expected to be completed by 2028, will replace the previously proposed single elevated road and is designed to address the growing traffic congestion in one of the NCR’s busiest residential corridors.

The proposed flyover will connect the Iteda roundabout in Greater Noida West to Crossings Republik via Shahberi, offering faster access to the Delhi-Meerut Expressway. The project cost has now been revised to around Rs 900 crore, up from the earlier estimate of Rs 400 crore.

The funding will be shared by the Greater Noida Authority and the Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA), while the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) will develop the project due to its connection with the expressway.

Speaking about the project, Prabhat Shankar, Senior Manager at GNIDA, said the flyover will be developed by NHAI, and a Detailed Project Report (DPR) will be prepared soon. Officials explained that a feasibility study found the existing 14-metre-wide road in Shahberi too narrow for the originally planned four-lane elevated road, which required at least 15 metres of width.

To overcome this challenge, authorities opted for a double-decker design, which can be constructed within a 12-metre-wide corridor using U-shaped pillars while allowing traffic to continue on the road below.

The new flyover is expected to significantly improve connectivity between Greater Noida West and Crossings Republik, two rapidly growing residential hubs that have witnessed a sharp rise in population over the past decade.

Thousands of commuters, including office-goers, school buses, goods vehicles, and autorickshaws, use this route every day, leading to severe traffic jams during peak hours. The area also faces frequent waterlogging during the monsoon, further increasing travel time. Officials believe the new flyover will help reduce congestion and make daily travel smoother.

The project will now move into the planning stage with the preparation of the DPR, followed by detailed engineering and construction approvals. Once work begins, authorities aim to complete the project within two years, making it operational by 2028. The flyover is expected to become a key infrastructure project for Greater Noida, supporting the region’s growing residential development and improving connectivity across the NCR.
