  • ₹145 crore sports complex to be developed in Sector 123, Noida
  • International-standard athletics track and multi-sports facilities planned
  • Project will be completed in two phases over the next two years

Noida: Noida Authority has announced plans to develop a modern sports complex in Sector 123 at an estimated cost of ₹145 crore. The project was announced on Thursday, with the authority also issuing a tender to appoint an agency for construction. Spread across 26.65 acres, the facility aims to strengthen sports infrastructure in the city and provide athletes with world-class training and competition venues.

The sports complex will be developed in two phases over the next two years. The first phase, covering 14.92 acres at a cost of ₹70.34 crore, will include an international-standard 400-metre synthetic athletics track, a football ground, facilities for long jump, high jump, javelin, shot put, discus and hammer throw, along with four tennis courts, four volleyball courts, two basketball courts, a children’s play area, an open gym, parking, kiosks, toilets, and landscaped open spaces.

The facility will also feature high-mast floodlights, public announcement systems, fire safety equipment, lifts, air-conditioning systems, and other infrastructure required for hosting major sporting events.

Speaking about the project, Krishan Karunesh, Chief Executive Officer of the Noida Authority, said the sports complex is designed to nurture young sporting talent while providing quality facilities for residents and sports enthusiasts. He said the project will offer dedicated infrastructure for multiple outdoor sports and create an environment suitable for training as well as competitive events.

The second phase will be developed on 11.73 acres at an estimated cost of ₹74.66 crore. It will include a multi-purpose indoor sports hall, indoor gaming facilities, and residential accommodation for coaches. The complex will also provide parking space for around 150 cars along with a dedicated two-wheeler parking area.

Once completed, the facility is expected to reduce pressure on the existing Noida Stadium in Sector 21A, which currently remains heavily occupied, while creating better opportunities for athletes preparing for state, national, and international competitions.

Interestingly, the land earmarked for the sports complex was originally proposed as a dumping ground several years ago. Following strong opposition from nearby residents and villagers, the landfill project was shifted elsewhere, and the site remained vacant after being restored in 2018.

The Noida Authority has now repurposed the land for sports infrastructure. After the tender process is completed and a construction agency is selected, work on the project is expected to begin, with both phases targeted for completion within the next two years.
