Noida: With the opening of the Noida International Airport approaching, authorities have accelerated work on a dedicated busway designed to streamline airport connectivity and reduce pressure on existing roads.
Noida Airport busway corridor will run parallel to the 130-metre-wide main road and connect seamlessly with a 22-lane expressway, which is expected to become operational by the end of the year. Officials say the project is a key part of a broader mobility plan aimed at preventing traffic bottlenecks once airport operations commence.
The busway is being developed as a reserved route exclusively for public transport buses, separating them from general traffic. Transport planners believe this move will significantly reduce congestion for both airport passengers and daily commuters travelling through the region.
According to officials, the strategy focuses on ensuring that mass transit remains unaffected even during peak hours. By giving buses a dedicated path, the authority hopes to improve travel time reliability and encourage greater use of public transport.
Project teams are currently working on carriageway paving, drainage systems, road safety features, and traffic management installations. Intelligent traffic systems and updated signage are also being integrated to ensure smooth operations from day one.
The ongoing phase, costing approximately Rs 105 million, covers a three-kilometre stretch on both sides of the corridor. Authorities have allocated funds toward pavement strengthening, safety enhancements, and technology-driven traffic control measures.
Officials confirmed that coordination is underway with local municipalities to align feeder roads and surrounding infrastructure. This includes connecting nearby residential and commercial zones to the busway network.
Trial runs and phased commissioning are planned before the airport’s inauguration to fine-tune schedules and address operational challenges. Traffic modelling is also being monitored closely to adapt to expected passenger flow patterns once flights begin.
Transport planners view the busway as more than just an airport connector. It forms part of a larger urban mobility framework intended to support future growth in the Noida-Greater Noida region. With increased commercial activity and residential development expected around the airport zone, authorities aim to avoid long-term strain on road infrastructure.
Residents and businesses have been informed about construction timelines and temporary traffic diversions. Officials maintain that completing the project on schedule is critical to balancing traffic demand and ensuring seamless airport access.
