Gurugram: A tense situation unfolded on Wednesday at Emaar Palm Gardens in Sector 83 after residents objected to an alleged attempt to encroach upon the society’s green area. The protest erupted when construction activity was reportedly initiated on land earmarked as a green belt.
According to residents, the green space—spread over nearly 0.5 acres near Tower-2—has been under judicial consideration since 2021. Despite the ongoing legal status, they claim efforts were made to begin construction without prior notice to the Resident Welfare Association (RWA).
Residents further alleged collusion between the builder and the management of VPN Motels School, claiming that school staff entered the society premises around 11:45 am, removed boundary markings, and attempted to start work. This action, they said, directly contradicted assurances given at the time of flat purchases, when buyers were promised a permanent green area.
Adding to the controversy, society members claim there was an earlier agreement under which the school management had permanently relinquished its right to construct on the disputed land. They also allege that the builder later sold the land through a conveyance deed, without disclosing key facts to the RWA.
As residents gathered in protest, the situation escalated, leading them to approach the police. Law enforcement officials reached the spot and immediately stopped the construction activity. The residents have since moved the court, filing a petition seeking an urgent stay on any further work. The next hearing in the case is scheduled before the district court on April 23, 2026.
RWA office-bearers said the green area is vital for children, senior citizens, and the overall environmental balance of the society, and any attempt to alter its status will be strongly opposed through legal means.
Statements from Residents
“The green area is under judicial consideration, yet construction was started without any notice. This is a clear violation of the law.”
“A deal for the green area was made by concealing facts from the Resident Welfare Association, which we will not accept under any circumstances.”
“This green space is essential for children and the elderly. It cannot be taken away through force or pressure.”
