YEIDA Cracks Down on Illegal Colonies, Reclaims Rs 400 Crore Land Near Noida Airport

The Yamuna Expressway authority demolished unauthorised housing near the upcoming airport, recovering 25 acres worth Rs 400 crore, as part of a wider drive to curb illegal “airport township” developments across the region.

  • 25 acres reclaimed near the airport; illegal “Green City” colony demolished

  • FIRs to be filed against unauthorised builders and colonisers

  • Over Rs 6,500 crore worth of land recovered in the last three years

Noida: In a major enforcement drive, Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) has reclaimed nearly 25 acres of encroached land valued at around Rs 400 crore near the upcoming Noida International Airport. The operation targeted unauthorised housing and illegal plotting that had mushroomed around the airport corridor.

Officials said teams demolished an illegal colony marketed as Green City, spread across roughly 12 acres in Dayanatpur village. Simultaneously, action was taken on an adjoining seven-acre parcel where unauthorised plotting was underway. A 60-metre-wide access road leading towards the airport was also cleared. In a parallel operation, encroachments over nearly six acres were removed in Sabota Mustafabad village.

Senior YEIDA officials, along with police and revenue teams, supervised the demolition. The authority confirmed that FIRs will be lodged against illegal developers and colonisers operating within the notified area, warning buyers to verify approvals before investing in plots being sold as “airport townships”.

The latest action forms part of YEIDA’s broader campaign to dismantle land rackets that emerged after the airport project announcement. Authorities explained that land mafia groups began converting low-cost agricultural parcels into fake residential plots—often erecting temporary boundary walls and signboards to create an illusion of legality—before marketing them aggressively to city buyers.

This is not an isolated operation. In October last year, YEIDA reclaimed nearly 300 acres worth about Rs 1,200 crore in Aligarh by demolishing multiple unauthorised colonies. A month earlier, around 155 acres valued at approximately Rs 2,500 crore were recovered in Bulandshahr, where several illegal developments were razed.

Following directions from the authority’s CEO, field officers have been instructed to intensify inspections, conduct raids, register FIRs against violators, and submit regular action-taken reports. Officials revealed that over the past three years, YEIDA has carried out more than 25 major drives, cumulatively reclaiming land worth close to Rs 6,500 crore.

Authorities reiterated that only projects with proper land-use change approvals and statutory clearances are legal, urging homebuyers to remain cautious. With construction of the international airport progressing steadily, YEIDA says enforcement will continue to ensure planned development and to protect buyers from fraudulent real estate schemes.
