Noida: Residents living in Sectors 116 and 117 have raised concerns over the absence of public green spaces in the area and are requesting the development of a large park on a vacant stretch of land between the two sectors.

With several high-rise housing societies coming up in the surrounding areas, the population in this part of Noida has increased rapidly. Locals say that while residential development has accelerated, the creation of public parks and community spaces has not kept pace.

According to residents, a well-planned park would help improve air quality, provide a safe space for children and elderly people, and add much-needed greenery to the neighbourhood.

Kosinder Yadav, president of the Sector 117 Residents’ Welfare Association and secretary of the Federation of Noida Residents Welfare Associations (FONRWA), said the area is witnessing rapid urbanisation but lacks adequate green cover.

He pointed out that despite the presence of several residential societies and a growing population, there is no large park in the vicinity. A green space, he said, could serve as an “oxygen zone” for residents and improve the overall environment of the locality.

Currently, many residents have no option but to walk along roads for daily exercise, which they say is unsafe, particularly for children and senior citizens.

Residents have suggested that the proposed park could be developed on the lines of Vedvan, a themed biodiversity park in Noida known for its landscaping, greenery, and nature-focused recreational spaces.

Rajesh Sharma, a resident of Sector 116, said that a large park would give families a safe outdoor area where children could play and elderly residents could take walks without worrying about traffic.

Another resident, Nishant Bansal, added that urban development should not be limited to buildings alone. According to him, community spaces such as parks are essential for maintaining a healthy and balanced living environment.

Officials from the Noida Authority confirmed that the idea of developing a park at the proposed site is currently being examined.

AK Arora, General Manager (Civil) at the Noida Authority, said the project is under consideration and discussions are ongoing under the direction of the authority’s Chief Executive Officer. He added that the plan includes developing a large park inspired by the Vedvan concept, along with the possibility of constructing an attractive pond within the green space.

The proposal is still in the planning stage and will move forward once it receives the required approvals from senior authorities.

Residents say they hope the project is approved soon, as the demand for green spaces continues to grow with the rapid expansion of housing societies in the area.
