Dadri, Jewar to Get New Substations Under Rs 70 Cr Plan

To tackle rising electricity demand and prepare for peak summer load, the Noida power department has proposed two new substations and major infrastructure upgrades across rural GB Nagar.

  • Two new 33/11 kV substations planned in Dadri and Jewar

  • Rs 70 crore proposal sent to UPPCL for FY 2026–27

  • Transformer upgrades, feeder bifurcation, and cable replacement included

Noida power department has proposed setting up two new 33/11 kV substations in Dadri and Jewar. The department has sought a budget allocation of Rs 70 crore from Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) for infrastructure upgrades in the financial year 2026–27.

The proposal comes as electricity demand in Gautam Budh Nagar (GB Nagar) continues to rise, especially in rural belts. Officials estimate that peak demand could cross 3,000 MW during the upcoming summer months, making network expansion and modernization essential.

According to Praveen Kumar, Executive Engineer of the Noida power department, the two substations are planned to address increasing load requirements in rural areas. “To meet the growing electricity demand in villages and semi-urban pockets of GB Nagar district, we have proposed two new 33/11 kV substations in Dadri and Jewar. These are part of a broader Rs 70 crore business plan submitted to UPPCL for approval,” he said.

Focus on Rural Infrastructure

A significant portion of the proposed budget will be spent in rural areas such as Dankaur, Dadri, and Jewar, where rapid development and population growth have added pressure on the existing power network.

The Rs 70 crore outlay includes:

  • Capacity enhancement of ageing transformers

  • Replacement of old and damaged cables

  • Installation of new poles

  • Bifurcation of overloaded feeders to improve reliability

Feeder bifurcation, officials said, will help reduce power cuts by dividing high-load areas into smaller, manageable circuits, ensuring smoother electricity distribution.

Urban and Central Scheme Works to Continue

While rural infrastructure remains a priority under the new proposal, modernization works in urban areas are already progressing under the Centre’s Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS). These works include strengthening distribution systems in densely populated zones.

Officials confirmed that once UPPCL grants approval — expected by March — the department will begin execution of the new substations and other repair and upgrade works simultaneously.

The planned upgrades are expected to improve power reliability, reduce outages, and ensure smoother supply during the high-demand summer period, benefiting both residential consumers and businesses across GB Nagar.
