Amrapali Sapphire-II Fined ₹73.40 Lakh for Environmental Violations in Noida

Following a site inspection on January 31, 2026, authorities found serious lapses in sewage treatment at Amrapali Sapphire-II, leading to a ₹73.40 lakh penalty and referral for further legal action.

  • Untreated sewage found flowing into nearby drain through bypass lines

  • Two Sewage Treatment Plants declared non-functional during inspection

  • Case referred to pollution board for possible FIR after repeated violations

The Environment Cell of Noida Authority imposed an environmental compensation of ₹73.40 lakh on Amrapali Sapphire-II in Sector-45, Noida, after uncovering serious violations related to sewage treatment and wastewater disposal.

The penalty followed a site inspection carried out on January 31, 2026, at Plot No. GH-02 (Jal-III), where officials found that the residential complex’s Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) were not operating as required under environmental norms. Despite two STPs being installed at the premises, both were reported non-functional at the time of inspection.

More concerning was the discovery of bypass arrangements, which allowed untreated sewage to flow directly into a nearby drain. Authorities described this as a grave breach of statutory requirements, posing risks to public health and the local environment.

According to inspection records, the society management also failed to submit essential technical documentation related to STP operations. Officials noted that similar shortcomings had been highlighted during earlier visits, but no meaningful corrective steps were taken, leading to prolonged non-compliance over hundreds of days.

Based on these findings, the fine was calculated by combining daily penalties for continued bypass discharge with a one-time initial environmental compensation. The violations fall under multiple laws, including the Water (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1974, the Air (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Act, 1981, and the Solid Waste Management Rules of 2000 and 2016.

The authority further stated that repeated lapses contradict directions issued by the National Green Tribunal. Given the continued non-adherence, the case has now been forwarded to the Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board with instructions to begin the process of registering a First Information Report (FIR) against the society.

Reiterating its zero-tolerance stance, Noida Authority warned that strict action will continue against residential and commercial establishments found compromising environmental safety. The authority also urged Resident Welfare Associations and residents to ensure proper functioning of pollution-control systems and comply fully with environmental regulations.

Officials concluded by appealing to citizens to actively participate in compliance efforts, emphasizing that collective responsibility is essential for building a cleaner, safer, and more sustainable Noida.
