Investments expected to generate significant direct and indirect employment
The Adani Group is preparing to deepen its presence in India’s cement sector with fresh expansion plans in Madhya Pradesh, one of the country’s fastest-growing infrastructure and construction markets. Under the proposal, Adani Cement is looking to establish two new grinding units with a combined capacity of 12 million tonnes per annum (MTPA), signalling a strong long-term bet on domestic cement demand.
According to officials familiar with the development, the group has already secured land for one of the proposed facilities—a 6 MTPA grinding unit in Guna district. The project will involve an estimated investment of ₹15 billion, and is expected to create around 300 direct jobs and nearly 1,200 indirect employment opportunities, benefiting the local economy and allied industries such as logistics and services.
In parallel, Adani Cement is advancing plans for a second grinding unit of similar capacity in Ujjain district. This project is expected to attract an investment of about ₹14 billion, with the company seeking nearly 70 hectares of land for development. While the Guna project has moved into the land-allotment stage, the Ujjain proposal is still under evaluation by the state authorities.
Confirming the plans, Chandramauli Shukla, Managing Director of the Madhya Pradesh Industrial Development Corporation, said that two proposals from the Adani Group are currently on the table. He noted that land has already been allotted for the Guna project, while locations including Ujjain, Bhopal, and Rewa are being considered for the second unit.
“The proposals reflect Madhya Pradesh’s growing attractiveness as a manufacturing destination,” Shukla said, adding that discussions are ongoing to finalise the most suitable location for the second facility.
Strengthening Adani Cement’s Central India Footprint
The planned expansion comes at a time when Adani Cement is steadily scaling up its production capabilities across India. The cement business of the Adani Group includes well-known brands such as Ambuja Cements and ACC, both of which play a major role in supplying cement to infrastructure, housing, and industrial projects nationwide.
In Madhya Pradesh, ACC already operates an integrated cement plant at Kymore, giving the group an established manufacturing base in the state. The proposed grinding units are expected to complement existing operations by improving regional distribution efficiency, lowering transportation costs, and enhancing supply to nearby consumption centres.
Industry experts say central India has emerged as a strategic region for cement producers due to rising investments in highways, urban housing, renewable energy parks, and irrigation projects. Madhya Pradesh’s central location also allows manufacturers to serve multiple states efficiently.
Jobs, Infrastructure, and Long-Term Demand
Beyond capacity addition, the projects are expected to deliver broader economic benefits. Construction and operation of the grinding units will support job creation, boost demand for raw material transportation, and stimulate local business activity.
Cement demand in India continues to be driven by government-led infrastructure spending, housing schemes, and private-sector investments. Analysts believe that grinding units, which require lower capital expenditure compared to integrated plants, offer companies flexibility to scale operations while remaining cost-efficient.
The proposed investments also align with the Adani Group’s broader strategy to consolidate and optimise its cement operations following recent acquisitions. By expanding grinding capacity closer to demand centres, the group aims to strengthen its market position while improving operational efficiency.
If approved, the two Madhya Pradesh grinding units would mark another significant step in Adani Cement’s expansion journey, reinforcing its ambition to become one of the country’s most dominant cement producers over the next decade.
